The Holy Grail didn't disappoint me. Only thing is it made me kinda sad because I miss that band so much. One of the great tragedies in rock music history is that this lineup was never able to reach it's potential and be a fully functioning band with years of touring and album releases. Watch the performances of the CD era stuff on there and not only are the guys in the band on fire, but so is Axl. He's so passionate and emotive and putting forth so much effort during those songs (as well as the rest of the show but those songs in particular). I watch how much they're all into Oh My God and Silkworms and would kill to hear how much more material they had in that direction. The Axl/Robin/Bucket group is fairly untouchable in my mind.

I would be curious to hear this OMG in a better quality, as I like the added guitar parts, but there's not much else that sounds different at all. I'm actually pretty fascinated with the Silkworms though. As a whole, it's not super great but there are lots of really, really cool and interesting parts all over the place. Bucket and his killswitch are all over the track. Lots of great effects, I love that part with the talking guitar (not really sure what else to call it) and that short mellow breakdown. It's all very aggressive and heavy. I honestly would have loved to have heard an album in this direction.

I can't believe I missed it. One of my favorite songs ever! A kind soul PM me please???

What really pisses me off is the fact that we're seemingly going to spend the rest of our lives and never hear the troves of material from the 20 years pre-reunion. I'd give a limb to get a box set of all CD era material.

I would love to hear Shackler's Revenge, If the World and Prostitute on this tour. I wouldn't mind the other songs too.
While I absolutely love the song, I'm not keen on hearing Slash attempt Shackler lol

Can we pretty please get Robin and Bucket back?

I really like Slash’s take on Better, it’s an original and consistent solo that I think is better than Finck’s. However I don’t like or am mixed on Slash’s other CD solos. His TWAT solo is pretty good but Buckethead blows him out of the water.
How can Slash's solo be better than Finck's when it's literally random shredding and noodling each time? He's never played the same thing twice. The only thing he ever plays each time is that little line of cascading notes that's about 8 notes long, the rest is random. That's a pretty ridiculous statement, as Finck's solo is beauty poetry. It speaks just like another verse of the song would. It's gorgeous.

I am so ultimately disappointed every time I hear Slash on a CD track. I thought for sure he would be able to put his own touch on each song but every single one is senseless noodling. I don't get it.

Single greatest line up in the band's history right there. Every show they did in that era was pretty fantastic, so much energy from everyone involved, so many different personalities and styles. God I wish that line up had stayed together.

I'm sure she was there so her and Axl could finish that 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' cover from back in '05 hahaha

People are just complaining more because the problems are easier to identify in a pro mix. I agree that this is a step up from 2011, and that what we are seeing tonight is more or less representative of the band during the last couple of months. It isn't a bad thing, because they still sound good. I just think people were expecting too much when they really should have been expecting more of the same.
Fair assumption, but I think most people have the logical hope that when they're headlining such a huge show and it's being shown all over the world, that all parties involved will step it up an extra notch. Just a guess.

I'm having flashbacks of '01 when Axl told this crowd "we'll be back next summer with a whole new bunch of new songs!"

Everybody who's complaining about this show can go on youtube to find something they enjoy, rather than wasting good space on this thread...
What's the point of a discussion if it's just a circle jerk? They're my favorite band but damn, they are having an off night.

Absolutely, loved Better
Dude, be totally honest with yourself. That was the single worst version of Better that has ever been played. Ever. It wasn't just bad or not good, it was atrocious.

Holy shit, this is perhaps the worst I've heard this band sound. Eek.

I've honestly had nothing but problems with this whole "web app". The first day I had it, it was good. Since then, I've had to change my password I couldn't tell you how many times because it tells me I have the incorrect password. Then in the off chance that I can get logged in, almost every time I watch a stream, the video will do this weird sputter and the audio will speed up to double and cause this weird change in pitch, almost like audio sounds like when it's being fast forwarded. I know it's not my Internet connection, I've tried it at 3 or 4 places with the same result. I'd already pre-ordered the Blu Ray on Amazon, I wish I'd just saved the $20 bucks I spent on the stream :\

I'm normally not too dumb on these things but does anyone know how I can stream this using my Chromecast? I can watch the concert using the Chrome browser on my phone, even though I can't get it to go full screen even on my phone.

Some producer guy walked on the stage and said "I'm sorry guys but you have to play the song again. We didn't go through it with Taylor Momsen before and this is for a tv show, so you gotta play it again. sorry".
-
I can't believe he answered my question about his version of 'Better' haha. Props for that!

HOB '01 is the Holy Grail of GNR as far as I'm concerned. We have far too little from that line up. Plus, I think it would be pretty interesting to see the first ever concert from that band. Oh, and Silkworms, OMG, and Riad, plus one of THE best performances of The Blues...
-
That was honestly kinda lame. I didn't expect any Earth-shattering news, and Ron is awesome as hell, but 90% of it was just him jamming random, obscure covers. He's done that same thing many, many times...

I can't get the link that GroundCTRL sent me in my email to work...[/shock]

I really like everything about the song, especially the intro and the vocal melodies, but I cannot stand Axl's vocals on here. Way too high pitched and processed. I'd love to hear a version with him doing lower range vocals. But Tommy does a good job. That said, it does sound like a Tommy solo song that Axl came in and sang back up on. Good song, but I would be pissed if it made it onto an album. Better for a b-side or a download or bonus track...

You know, Axl should really consider doing a tour where he just plays "Appetite for Destruction" in full
Isn't that pretty much what he's been doing for 12 years now??

Am I imagining it or did we find out "Oklahoma" turned out to be "Riad n' the Bedouins"? I know that doesn't make sense in the context of the song because I remember Axl talked about the reference to being in court while the Oklahoma City bombing happened, and that doesn't jive with "Riad". Maybe I imagined it.
