Lithium
OK, so, according to 'My Computer' in Windows, I have two hard drives on my Acer Aspire 5600 laptop - one called ACER (C:) and one called ACERDATA (D:).The problem is, I've only got a little more than one GB (of 40 GB) left of the memory on ACER (C:), and I've got 30 GB (of 30,3 GB) left of the memory on ACERDATA (D:). And the question is, how do I like, move my future downloads to ACERDATA (D:), where there are a lot more memory left?Sorry if this is a really stupid question with an obvious answer, but I really don't know all that much about computers, at least not the hardware part. santana
What downloads are you talking about? It depends on what you're using to download. For exapmle, if you're downloading torrents, set your torrent client's properties to download to a folder on your D: drive. To be honest though, your D: drive is most likely a recovery partition and I wouldn't recommend using it as data storage. Your best bet would be to upgrade to a new hard drive, or get an external hard drive.

JDRM
santana: you're right its more than likely a recovery partition. They do the same thing with dell. No need to buy a new hard drive, just use a something like partition magic to resize the partitions on your laptop

I hate how they make the recovery partitions twice the necessary size.

highvoltage
Can partition magic resize a partition without formatting it?Yes, it can which is pretty amazing - but obviously there are risks involved in doing that, so you really need to back things up before you try it. I hate how they make the recovery partitions twice the necessary size.Partition Magic does not work with Vista if its a new laptop.I use the GParted LiveCD, which is based off Linux to resize my partitions. You just boot from it and it does exactly the same thing a Partition Magic - and its 100% free!http://gparted-livecd.tuxfamily.org/

highvoltage
Its a HP PavillionTis a nice Computer. Those two statements just don't go together. Those specs are OK, but i've sold HP computers at two seperate places and they're the most unreliable, overpriced poorly built pieces of shit ever. At the service center I did training at we'd have one in ten dead straight out of the box. Their tech support people are almost impossible to deal with too. http://www.gripe2ed.com/scoop/story/2006/5/16/02354/7418http://chris.pirillo.com/2002/01/14/why-hp-sucks-so-much/http://www.gaebler.com/HP-Sucks.htm

Off-the-shelf PC's come with so much shit pre-installed, which I think is the worst thing personally. For example, Acer stuff (as talked about) insist you have all this eDataBackup and eHome and eBitch crap sitting on your desktop. I don't trust any PC's except the ones I build my own for my customers Of course, even if you buy a Ferarri it can still go wrong a couple weeks down the line... But HP? The worst, easily. I meet guys from all the other home office/electrical stores on product showcase nights and they all have the same experiences with them that we do.
