Ok so I'm not going to start saying that I know anything about rap (I don't), however I do know what I love listening to, and I'd like to know more so maybe some of you more knowlegeable guys can "school" me. Ok so this is where you tell me some awesome albums that I must have.

Ok so here's my fave albums just to get ya started:

N.W.A - Straight Outta Compton (pretty much a staple album ey? It's what got me started on rap, although I only listen to the first 3 killer tracks these days)

2Pac - Me Against the World (I first got All Eyez on Me, but it was a little too "gangsta life" for me, this is heaps fucking better, aggressive like)

Dr Dre - The Chronic (Duh. Snoop really makes this album good, Dre isn't the best rapper on his own, but Snoop really brings the whole album up when he comes in)

Ice Cube - AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (real kickass, Ice Cube rocks)

Some Ice T albums.

Love Beasties, but got enough of their stuff.

Anyways they are just the ones I listen to pretty much over and over, and I'd love to "expand".

Help plz :xmasschef2: .

Ice Cube - AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted

Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt

Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle

Outkast - Stankonia

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP

Nas - Illmatic

The Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die

;)

Yeah, I listed AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted :xmassrudolph:.

Is Jay-Z any good? I always associated him with pop-rap .

I'll check out some of that other stuff too, I've always liked Eminem.

Easy E - It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa

Run D.M.C. - Run D.M.C.

Run D.M.C. - Raising Hell

Never got around to any of E's solo stuff, I've heard a few songs though it's cool...nothing groundbreaking but. Got both those Run D.M.C. albums too, good stuff.

The Eminem Show is probably my favorite. Drips are awesome.

EDIT: The problems with Eminems albums is that all of them contains songs which, imo, is shit.

I can list the good songs from the albums I've got.

The Eminem Show:

White America

Business

Cleaning out my Closet

Squar Dance

Soldier

Say Goodbye to Hollywood

Drips

Sing For The Moment

Superman

Hailies Song

My Dad's Gone Crazy

The Marshall Mathers LP:

Stan

The Way I Am

Marshall Mathers

The Slim Shady LP:

Guilty Conscience

Brain Damage

Rock Bottom

As The World Turns

Bad Meets Evil

Encore:

Mockinbird

Mosh

Toy Soldiers

8 Mile:

Lose Yourself

8 Mile

Run Rabbit Run

The rest are pretty much shit.

Sorry, didn't see. ;)

Yeah, I really like him, he has a good flow. If you like Reasonable Doubt, check out The Blueprint, it's quite the unique album.

Em's great, there's so much anger in him.

I'll also add Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back and Fear of a Black Planet.

I've always liked Public Enemy and Wu-Tang but I dunno, I can never get into their "beats", their lyrics are tight though. Maybe they just aren't accessable enough for my ears right now.

I'll start on the downloading tonight, def. get some Eminem.

Jay Z is fuckin imperial. Jay Z is about the best mainstream rapper around, his flow is something REALLY special. he's one of those sick rhymers in the Notorious BIG that have this crazy sense of rhythm where they not only rhyme but they straighten or stretch out the syllables per bar (and sometimes toy with their pronnunciation which is funky) and just make the shit sound so fuckin...rhythmic. the very definition of what it is to flow.

like a normal rapper takes his shit and its like, its a huge disservice to Cube to sit and call him like a fuckin normal rapper but anywayz, for the sake of example:

Crazy motherfucker named ice cube

from the gang called N**** with attitude

when im called off

i got a sawed off

squeeze the trigger and bodies are hauled off

the rhyme aspect of the shit is all in the end, the last words...then you got someone like say Jay Z, take even his most fucking commercial shit like his verse in that Beyonce song Crazy In Love

Young hova

Ya'll know when the flow is loco

Young b and the r-o-c uh oh

O-g, big homie

The one and only

Stick boney but the pockets are fat like tony

Soprano the roc handle

Like van exel

I shake phonies man, you can't get next to

A genuine article, I do not sing tho

I sling though , if anything I bling yo

Star like ringo

War like a green berret

You're crazy bring your whole set

Jay-Z in the range

Crazy and deranged

They can't figure him out

They're like "hey is he insane?"

Yes sir I'm cut from a different cloth

My texture is the best fur, I'm chinchilla

I've been ill of the chain smokers

How you think I go the name hova

I've been reala'

The game's over

Fall back young ever since

I made you change over to platinum

The game's been a wrap

One

count the amount of rhymes per bar, its really quite fuckin icredible...

but yeah, reccomendations?

Am I Black Enough For Ya - Schoolly D

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP - classic. Eminem at his best. Probably the best flow out there today, and some really strong lyrics.

"I've got a list, here's the order of the list that it's in

It goes: Reggie, Jay Z, Tupac and Biggie

Andre from Outkast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me

But in this industry I’m the cause of a lot of envy

so when I’m not put on this list the shit does not offend me"

Nas - Stillmatic - Illmatic is considered Nas' best work, like he says on his stillmatic hit "Got Yourself a Gun" - "My first album had no famous guest appearances. The outcome? I'm crowned the best lyricist", but I actually believe he achieves much better things on his sophomore Stillmatic.

"I've been fucked over, left for dead, dissed and forgotten

Luck ran out, they hoped that I'd be gone, stiff and rotten

Y'all just piss on me, shit on me, spit on my grave

Talk about me, laugh behind my back but in my face

Y'all some "well wishers," friendly acting, envy hiding snakes

With your hands out for my money, man, how much can I take?"

Arrested Development - Among the Trees. Really well done and much less electronic like most of today's HH. Very instrumental and melodic.

"I was 18, hungry for a chance of recognition

Get paid for my talent as a Hip Hop musician

I raised spirits from the dead to music inventions

I layed time and energy into my compositions

In time people started to request some of my pieces

They started to channel their Dollars to my releases"

Gym Class Heroes - As Cruel as School Children - very fun album, with funny, yet witty lyrics and great beats.

"I just hope I'm in your thoughts the next time you log in

And if not, ain't no love lost between you and me

I'll be here when your man ain't fully down as he used to be

So yeah it's time to sign out, my vision's gettin' blurry

This is madness, xoxo - Travis"

- Restless. Xzibit at his glory days, Eminem, Snoop, Nate Dogg, Dre... What else do you need? classic.

"And I'm the bad guy, cause I don't answer my door like "Hey hi!

You guys wants some autographs? Okay, form a straight line!"

Sometimes I feel like loadin' this rifle

and climbin' the roof at night and hidin' outside to snipe you

It's not that I don't like you, it's just that I'm not behind the mic

I'm a person who's just like you"

Tech N9ne - Absolute Power. Tech N9ne is just crazy. Really.

"I can't get wit it

Record labels in the industry are sick wit it

P.D.'s that really don't know a hit for shit

Kick the bitch - if you diss my hit, you might get pistol-whipped"

Honestly, I'm not huge into recommending rap albums because I can never tell which ones are hip-hop or which ones are rap, but here goes:

Will Smith - Lost and Found

Jay-Z - The Blueprint

Jay-Z - The Black Album

Dalek - Abandoned Language

Nas - Hip Hop is Dead

Really, anything by Saul Williams. Nas has some awesome albums and so does Dalek. Different styles, but you'll probably get used to them.

Best atmosphere album is God Loves Ugly, IMO.

Honestly, I'm not huge into recommending rap albums because I can never tell which ones are hip-hop or which ones are rap, but here goes:

No difference. The term Hip Hop generally refers to the culture. Which consists of the music genre (which is referred to as Rap), Beat Boxing, Break Dancing, Graffiti, the fashion, the lifestyle etc.

From Wikipedia:

Rapping (also known as emceeing, MCing, spitting, or just rhyming) is the rhythmic spoken delivery of rhymes and wordplay, one of the elements of hip hop music and culture.
The term rap is sometimes used synonymously with hip hop music, though it originally referred only to rapping itself.

So you don't have to tell what is HH and what is Rap, it's the same thing.

You have a hard-on for Wu-Tang yet you didn't even list Ghostface's Supreme Clietentele.

That is easily the best solo Wu-tang Cd.

By the way, that Raekwon cd you couldn't think of is "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx" and you are right it is good.
