P.A. Guns
Whoever mentioned With or Without You by U2, that's a good pick, though I'm talking about their version here.

kannon21
http://www.mygnrforum.com/index.php?showto...hl=saddest+song <-- same thread from 2 years ago, some really good songs mentioned in there. Anyways, l'd say The Partisan by Leonard Cohen, which l learned of in that thread. When they poured across the borderI was cautioned to surrender, this I could not do;I took my gun and vanished.I have changed my name so often,I've lost my wife and childrenbut I have many friends, and some of them are with me.An old woman gave us shelter, kept us hidden in the garret, then the soldiers came;she died without a whisper. There were three of us this morningI'm the only one this eveningbut I must go on;the frontiers are my prison.Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing, through the graves the wind is blowing, freedom soon will come;then we'll come from the shadows. DirtyDeeds
If you're talking Eminem, you gotta mention Rock Bottom. This is some raw shit:Ah yeah, Yo!This song is dedicated to all the happy peopleAll the happy people who have real nice livesAnd who have no idea what its like to be broke as fuckVerse One:I feel like I'm walkin a tight ropeWithout a circus netI'm popping PercocetI'm a nervous wreck, I deserve respectBut I work a sweat for this worthless checkBout to burst this tech, at somebody to reverse this debtMinimum wage got my adrenaline cagedFull of venom and rageEspecially when I'm engagedAnd my daughter's down to her last diaperThat's got my ass hyperI pray that god answers, maybe I'll ask nicerWatching ballers while they flossing in their pathfindersThese overnight stars becoming autograph signersWe all long to blow up and leave the past behind usAlong with the small fry's and average half pintersWhile playa haters turn bitch like they have vaginasCause we see them dollar signs and let the cash blind usMoney will brainwash you and leave your ass mindlessSnakes slither in the grass spinelessChorus:That's Rock BottomWhen this life makes you mad enough to killThat's Rock BottomWhen you want something bad enough to stealThat's Rock BottomWhen you feel you have had it up to hereCause you mad enough to scream but you sad enough to tearThat's Rock BottomWhen this life makes you mad enough to killThat's Rock BottomWhen you want something bad enough to stealThat's Rock BottomWhen you feel you have had it up to hereCause you mad enough to scream but you sad enough to tearVerse Two:My life is full of empty promisesAnd broken dreamsI'm hoping things will look upBut there ain't no job openingsI feel discouraged hungry and malnourishedLiving in this house with no furnace, unfurnishedAnd I'm sick of working dead end jobs with lame payAnd I'm tired of being hired and fired the same dayBut fuck it, if you know the rules to the game playCause when we die we know were all going the same wayIt's cool to be player, but it sucks to be the fanWhen all you need is bucks to be the manPlus a luxury sedanToo comfortable and roomy in a sixThey threw me in the mixWith all these gloomy lunaticsWalk around depressedAnd smoke a pound of cess a dayAnd yesterday went by so quick it seems like it was just todayMy daughter wants to throw the ball but I'm too stressed to playLive half my life and throw the rest awayChorusThere's people that love me and people that hate meBut it's the evil that made me this backstabbing, deceitful, and shadyI want the money, the women, the fortune, and the fameThat means I'll end up burning in hell scorching in flamesThat means I'm stealing your checkbook and forging your nameLifetime bliss for eternal torture and painRight now I feel like i just hit the rock bottomI got problems now everybody on my blocks got 'emI'm screaming like those two cops when 2pac shot 'emHolding two glocks, I hope your doors got new locks on 'emMy daughter's feet ain't got no shoes or socks on 'emAnd them rings you wearin look like they got a few rocks on 'emAnd while you flauntin them I could be taking them to shops to pawn 'emI got a couple of rings and a brand new watch you want 'em?Cause I never went gold off one songI'm running up on someone's lawns with guns drawnChorusSee, this is why I just can't dig hip hop. Every time they ALMOST get something great, they fuck it up with a handful of totally laughable lines that ruin the whole thing. 90% of these lines are good, but some are just ridiculous. I know he didn't write it, but I think this is a fantastic version that makes it even more sad sounding. This was also a fairly recent album, so anybody that says Robert Plant's voice isn't still orgasmic, put this in your pipe and smoke it:Robert Plant- Song to the Siren

Graeme
Coheed & Cambria- The Road & The Damned Maybe not in sound, unlike the first song which was in a massively minor key and so suffocatingly dark it was unbelievable, but in terms of what this song's about it brings a tear to my eye once or twice. It's about a man lying, about to die reminiscing on all he's done and the love he'll miss. It touches me because it had significance at one point in my life, nothing so significant as impending death, but a parting that hurt me a lot.the line "I believed in the world once in front of me, but now that's gone" in particular.
