My cover of If The World

Recommended Posts

So I spent two hours today recording a cover of If The World, and I believe it turned out quite good.

There are multiple vocal tracks and keyboard effects, but all are first take including the guitar solo. I started by recording vocals, piano and drums (played from the keyboard) at the same time, and then I went back and added more vocals and some strings afterwards, and ended by recording the small guitar solo.

I'm not usually a lead singer, I only sing backing vocals in my band, so I hope you can listen to it without hurting your ears.

It's more like a ballad, and less Spanish-influenced than the real version. For those of you who want to know how to play it, I used the chord progression C#m, B, F# throughout the entire song. I play it one step lower than the original, because I can't handle the high notes in the original key (Damn you Axl!).

Please let me know what you think!

Downloading :)

hey demonwolf, do you know any programs in the computer to create drums? Im a multi-talent musician (?¿) and the only thing im lacking is drums! lol!

On this particular song, I used a drum loop from my keyboard, but often when I record I use the demo version of Fruityloops (download for free) to create drums. Then I export them as MP3's, and import them to Audacity and add the rest of the instruments.

Aside from my little immature outburst it's a good cover.

I love the subtle guitar at the end.

What's wrong with Fruityloops? It's decent for creating drum patterns if you want to record something. :)

And about the guitar, I was originally planning to just play keyboard throughout the song (I got it a week ago, so my playing skills are not much to cheer for) but figured I might as well put a guitar solo on there.

Wow, thank you sir. Sounds soooo much better than porno mickey mouse voice. And I can understand the words and everything, very epic song.

No problem! I'm really pleased to hear you liked it. I sing falsetto on this too (right and left channel), but I put it lower in the mix since the song got a different feel in my normal voice.

My next attempt will be the epic New Song #2. It is insanely hard to sing, I don't know half the lyrics (prostitute?!!!) and it's got some key changes just to spicen things up.

What's your bands music like?

We play rock. We have a female singer and will record our first demo in two weeks, so our style isn't really defined yet, I guess. I'd say it sounds like classic rock with strong melodies. I shall post the songs when they are recorded and done.

The only thing we've recorded so far is a live cover of VR's The Last Fight, and it was almost a year ago, so we've obviously improved, and also added a keyboardist.

On topic: I will remix my If The World-cover so that it'll sound better in headphones, I'll post here when it's done.

Better than I thought it would be, I liked it. I'd add some slight reverb to the drum beat, maybe put a compressor on it to bring out the kick also. It just sounds so much like a crappy loop, if you tweak it a bit you can bring some life to it. It'd sound even cooler with some bass thrown in there too. Good job with it, man.
