MOLLY HATCHET (US)

Molly Hatchet from Jacksonville, Florida, established themselves in the 70s as the hardest band in Southern rock. None other than Lynyrd Skynyrd vocalist Ronnie Van Zant exclaimed that Molly Hatchet sounded exactly like he wanted Lynyrd Skynyrd to sound. Molly Hatchet hit major league status even with their first two albums "Molly Hatchet" (1978) and "Flirtin' With Disaster" (1979), and the latter's title track remains the band's biggest hit to date. Through their long career, they've had their share of problems, including the passing of two original members. Nevertheless, the current Molly Hatchet, centered around founder Dave Hlubek (guitar) and long-time members Phil McCormack (vocals) and Bobby Ingram (guitar), keeps on rocking - to the delight of their many faithful fans.

MR BIG (US)

One of the few melodic hard-rock bands to thrive in the "alternative" 90s was Mr Big. The acclaimed super-group consisted of four highly respected, brilliant musicians - Eric Martin (vocals), Paul Gilbert (guitar), Billy Sheehan (bass) and Pat Torpey (drums). The ingenious music was quite similar to Van Halen's, and songs like "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind", "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy" and, of course, ballad/mega-hit "To Be With You" became classics. Fans were overjoyed when Mr Big reunited in 2009 after a seven year split. The band promptly demonstrated that they were still an exceptional live-act, and this January will see the release of their comeback album "What If". Mr Big are back, and they're on fire - now their SRF-debut is coming up as well.

STRYPER (US)

The titans of Christian metal! In the 80s, California's Stryper ranked among the greatest in melodic metal. Albums like "To Hell With the Devil" (1986) sold millions of copies and songs like "Free", "Honestly" and "Always There For You" became smash hits on MTV. Consequently, many of Stryper's fellow Christians claim that the band were not "true" believers. This frustrated the quartet, who gradually switched styles and eventually dissolved. However, history redeemed Stryper's legacy, and the band reunited permanently in 2003. Their music and lyrics are once more reminiscent of the golden age, and currently Stryper's third album since the reunion, the cover release "The Covering", is pending release. Many have yearned for the band to come to SRF, and now they finally will - in their classic original line-up featuring brothers Michael and Robert Sweet (vocals/guitar and drums, respectively), Oz Fox (guitar) and Tim Gaines (bass).

KANSAS (US)

Kansas (guess what state they're from?) were pioneers in bringing symphonic rock and hard rock together. To this day, few others have done it as good. The band debuted in 1974 and got their big break in 1976 with the album "Leftoverture" and hit single "Carry On Wayward Son". A multitude of classic songs followed suit: "Dust in the Wind", "Point of Know Return" et al. The music of Kansas, with its great musicianship combined with intricate but still contagious melodies, has influenced countless progressive hard-rock acts. And it should preferably be enjoyed live - an environment where Kansas still excel.

*******************

YES!!! Kansas is one hell of a good band. ^_^

HAWKWIND (UK)

The titans of space rock, the progenitors of stoner rock, and one of the prime cult bands of all time. Hawkwind are also known as the main role models of Monster Magnet, and for having influenced Sex Pistols as well as Ministry. Plus, obviously, as the band where Lemmy was a member long enough to sing on their biggest hit "Silver Machine" (1972). After over 40 years, guitarist Dave Brock and cohorts are still very much active both on stage and in the studio. And few can rival Hawkwind when it comes to creating a psychedelic atmosphere. Just ask their many fans, some of the most fanatical in rock!

FM (UK)

Britain's pride and joy on the AOR scene of the 80s. FM conquered every fan of melodic rock with their debut "Indiscreet" (1986) and its successor "Tough It Out" (1989). Songs like "Frozen Heart", "That Girl" and "Bad Girl" have definitely earned the name of classics. Like so many of their peers, FM found the AOR-hostile climate of the 90s too grim to endure, and the band dissolved in 1995. Twelve years later, FM found the time had come to reunite, and the delight of their fans was hardly diminished when the band's excellent comeback album "Metropolis" arrived last year. Now FM also make their SRF-debut - with lauded singer Steve Overland at the frontline as always.

Edit 4:

DOC HOLLIDAY (US)

The 70s was the golden age of Southern rock. But what about the 80s? Sure, the genre produced good bands then also, and the prime example is arguably Doc Holliday of Georgia. 30 years have passed since 1981, when the band released their first two, highly successful albums "Doc Holliday" and "Rides Again". The latter included one of Southern rock's greatest classics, "Lonesome Guitar". The band's subsequent experiments with techno-sounds bombed, and Doc Holliday disbanded for a few years. However, since then they have got back on their feet and then some. Today they rank among the great cult-heroes of Southern rock. A band for those who like some groove with their rock.

MORBID ANGEL (US)

Only show in Sweden

The legendary American death metal-band Morbid Angel are not only recognized as illuminaries within their own genre, but as an influential force for metal music as a whole. The troupe from Florida are one of the true veterans of metal of the more brutal kind: the band was formed in 1984 and debuted with "Altars of Madness" in 1989; an album that over the years has won many polls regarding the best albums of extreme metal. The bands core trio of basist/vocalist David Vincent (who left the band in 1996, but returned in 2004), guitarist Trey Azagthoth and drummer Pete Sandoval recorded three more albums with different rhytm guitarists - Blessed are the Sick, Covenant and Domination - and all three stayed true to the bands roots while still finding new musical paths to walk. The bands music is bludgeoningly energetic, raw and brutal, but also technical, exacting and intimidatingly consistent. A characteristic for the bands sound is David Vincents potent vocals; a combination of a brutal, classic growl and a cleaner, more potent voice. Trey Azagthoth and Pete Sandoval have won several magazine polls for best guitarist and drummer, and they are prominently featured in more "technical" magazines. So anyone who finds the whole genre a bit too hard on the ears, but finds it interesting to watch masters of their craft at work should give Morbid Angel a chance. And for those who like the genre this is a true feast waiting to happen. Be prepared for an onslaught of death metal-classics from the bands first four albums, and maybe even a new song or two. The gig at Sweden Rock Festival will be the bands only show in Sweden this summer.

HARDCORE SUPERSTAR (S)

Day: Wednesday - Stage: Sweden Stage

Once they were regarded as a glam band, actually somewhat suspicious for "real" metalheads. Today Hardcore Superstar is one of the most successful and respected bands on the Swedish metal hard-rock scene. The turning-point was the band's eponymous, eventually classic album from 2005. It was succeded by three more highly successful albums, most recently last year's "Split Your Lip". The band who descibes their music as a synergy between thrash and sleaze is also a standing favorite of the SRF-crowd's. In other words, prepare for a crowd gone wild when Hardcore Superstar will play last on wednesday june 8 and when classics like "We Don't Celebrate Sundays", "Dreamin' in a Casket" and "Wild Boys" join forces with fresh faves as "Sadistic Girls" in one great party-mix.

CRASHDÏET (S)

Crashdïet's debut "Rest in Sleaze" (2005) put the New Wave of Sleaze on the Swedish media-map. Some time later tragedy struck when vocalist Dave Lepard committed suicide. And his replacement Olliver Twisted turned out to be wrong for the band and exited following the second album "The Unattractive Revolution" (2007). However, Crashdïet refused to give up. They found sensational front man Simon Cruz and released last year's "Generation Wild" - a knock-out comeback and a big success on the band's home turf. Crashdïet will now return to SRF with renewed vigor, as one of Sweden's hottest bands once more.

Edit:

FIVE HORSE JOHNSON (US)

Atlanta's Five Horse Johnson definitely ranks among the fastest rising stars on today's stoner rock scene. Their eclectic influences, from the blues in particular, have merged into a highly original sound, not without its references to Clutch. Actually, Five Horse Johnson's singer and harp player (!) Eric Oblander play harmonica on the latest Clutch album. Five Horse Johnson themselves have so far released six albums since 1996, and now the time seems right for the band to rise above underground status. The band will play on wednesday june 8.

Edit 2:

THIN LIZZY (IRL/UK/US)

Thin Lizzy was one of the prime hard-rock bands of the 70s. During the years with legendary vocalist/bassist Phil Lynott at the helm, i.e. 1969-83, the band produced innumerable classic tracks like "Whisky in the Jar", "Boys Are Back In Town", "Jailbreak", "Don't Believe a Word" and "Cold Sweat". Songs with a unique combination of groove, melody and ingenuity. No reunion was ever made before Lynott's passing in 1986, but ten years later the surviving members of Thin Lizzy's final line-up decided to start playing the classics again, under the old monicker. The line-up changed several times, and in 2009 Thin Lizzy seemed to face permanent dissolution. But no. May 2010 marked the band's official return in its strongest incarnation for a very long time. Namely former Thin Lizzy-members Scott Gorham (guitar), Brian Downey (drums), Darren Wharton (keyboards) and Marco Mendoza (bass), along with guitarist Viv Campbell (Def Leppard, ex-Dio) and singer Ricky Warwick (ex-The Almighty). Saying that Thin Lizzy are welcome back to SRF would be an understatement, the legend is back with a vengeance!

Edit 3:

HOUSTON (S)

The duo Freddie Allen and Hank Erix made what Classic Rock Magazine appointed the finest AOR album of 2010, the eponymous debut by Houston. The guys' role models are bands like Journey, Foreigner, Boston and Survivor - classic, melodic FM-rock of the early 80s' model. The single "Hold On" have graced the Swedish and Finnish airwaves, and now the British isles have also taken notice of Houston. To summarize, these young men from Stockholm are quickly becoming a new sensation - HEAT has got competition for the throne of Swedish AOR.

EVERGREY (S)

One of the most influential names on the Swedish metal scene is Gothenburg's Evergrey. The band debuted in 1998 and their melodic, dark, political and technical metal increased its fanbase with every new release. Albums like "In Search of Truth" (2001), "Recreation Day" (2003) and "Monday Morning Apocalypse" (2006) are all modern metal classics. In May 2010, fans were shocked to find out that Evergrey had lost three of their five members. Obviously, the band's future looked bleak. Thankfully, singer/guitarist/band leader Tom S Englund and keyboard player Rikard Zander held their ground. Another strong line-up has made another strong album, called "Glorious Collision". Evergrey are back with a vengeance, making their return to SRF an event to look forward to for any and all metal fans.

THE BREW (UK)

In their native Britain, the Brew have become the biggest sensation in traditional blues rock of recent years. Singer/guitarist Jason Barwick, drummer Kurtis Smith and the latter's father (!) Tim on bass debuted in 2006. Musically, the Brew have been compared to Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the Troggs. The band's third album "A Million Dead Stars" arrived in 2010 and gave their career a major boost. They had already obtained cult status on the European underground scene because of their superlative live shows. If you're into rock of the 60s/70s' variety, the Brew will knock you off your feet.

DOWN (US)

A supergroup of musicians from the heavy 90s' scene, united by their desire to play raw, aggressive and sludgy metal. Down from New Orleans consists of singer Phil Anselmo (ex-Pantera), guitarists Pepper Keenan (ex-Corrosion Of Conformity) and Kirk Windstein (Crowbar), drummer Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod) and "newbie" (joined in 1999) bassist Rex Brown (ex-Pantera). The band's classic debut "NOLA" arrived in 1995, and they are currently working on their fourth album. Their releases may be few and far between, but Down is still recognized as one of the finest metal bands of our time. Regardless if you prefer "old-school" or "modern" metal, this is a SRF-debut to look forward to.

ICED EARTH (US)

One of the inarguably most important bands from the great 90s-renaissance of melodic metal is returning to SRF - this time with their classic vocalist Matt Barlow. Iced Earth debuted in 1991 and have never budged from their ambition to create grandiose, melodic music in the finest traditions of heavy metal and thrash metal. Albums like "Burnt Offerings" (1995), "Dark Saga" (1996) and "Something Wicked This Way Comes" (1998) made them new favorites with the European headbangers' society. In 2003, Matt Barlow relinquished his place at guitarist/band leader Jon Schaffer's side, to be replaced by Tim "Ripper" Owens (ex-Judas Priest). The latter delivered superbly, but still the fans could not be anything but ecstatic when Matt Barlow returned in 2007. And now, the time is finally here for Iced Earth featuring Matt Barlow to play SRF for the first time ever. One of this year's major highlights for any true heavy metal-fan.

LEE AARON (CAN)

Only show in Scandinavia

The original "Metal Queen"! This monicker was also the name of Lee Aaron's 1984 breakthrough album, the title track of which in turn being her most classic song. The singer, whose birthname is Karen Greening, released seven hardrock-albums between 1982-94. The earliest ones - like "Metal Queen" - have a certified heavy metal-edge, whereas the later ones - like the bestseller "Bodyrock" (1989) - are slightly more melodic. In later years, Lee Aaron's singing career has revolved around jazz and blues, with hard rock being seemingly a thing of the past. Until now, that is. In 2011, the original Metal Queen makes her comeback at SRF - her first ever concert on Swedish soil. A bona fide sensation for all fans of genuine 80s metal!

!!!

NECRONAUT (S)

Necronaut is no ordinary project. When the celebrated, eponymous debut album was released this past autumn, Swedish daily paper Expressen wrote: "if Dave Grohl had dared getting his hands dirty, Probot could have turned out as well as former Dismember drummer Fred Estbys solo project". Death metal veteran Fred Estby has gathered some of Sweden's hardest, most uncompromising musicians for a unique appearance at Sweden Rock Festival. According to the band leader, this may very well be Necronaut's only public concert ever. He also promises that the all-star line-up will deliver not only Necronaut material, but also some other brutal surprises. Musicians confirmed so far: Fred Estby (ex-Dismember) Nicke Andersson (Imperial State Electric, ex-Hellacopters, ex-Entombed) Tomas "Tompa" Lindberg (At The Gates) Erik Danielsson (Watain) Tyrant (Nifelheim) Hellbutcher (Nifelheim) Janne "JB" Christoffersson (Grand Magus) Andreas "Drette" Axelsson (Tormented, ex-Edge Of Sanity) David Blomqvist (Dismember) Tobias Christiansson (Dismember, Grave) Robert Pehrsson (Dundertåget, Deathbreath)

This will be so fucking great! ^_^

Yeah. Accept are here now too. Withour Udo however. I've seen them with him 2005 though. And him in his solo career several times. Wont be able to see him in his camo-shorts this year. ( )

ACCEPT (D)

The legends who put German heavy metal - as opposed to hard rock - on the world map. Accept released their modest debut in 1979, and broke through in 1981 with the "Breaker"-album and a praised tour with Judas Priest. Subsequent releases like "Restless and Wild" (1982) and "Balls of the Wall" (1983) officially elevated Accept to the echelons of metal. Essential factors were the ultra-heavy sound, the classically inspired guitar playing and, not least, Udo Dirkschneider - equally original as a singer and a front man. In 1987, Udo left Accept to create U.D.O. He returned to Accept in 1992-96, after which the band dissolved. 2005 saw a temporary comeback, including an appearance at SRF, but Udo was adamant that if Accept wanted to make a full-scale comeback, they would have to do it without him. This they did. In 2010, Accept released their first album with their new American vocalist Mark Tornillo (ex-TT Quick), "Blood of the Nations". The record was a great success, and Accept now return to SRF as a band in triumph.

I hope the new singer is good.

It was a fantastic time for me , from the bands I've seen

1. Duff McKagan's Loaded - really cool concert, nothing spectacular and certainly it lacks good songs, becasue out of 10-12 set song, 5-6 were really great rest was average but the band was tight and Duff lokked really happy , cool band but nothing special on the other hand.

2. Buckcherry - great show, great songs, you can easily jump to their high-energy set, only 1-2 ballads and rocker after rocker. Josh Todd has great stage presence and they know how to keep you interested. Highly recommened.

3. Joan Jett - cool songs, Joan still looks hot but every songs is somehow the same soft punk rock tune. She played songs form Runaways and form her solos records and of course "I love rock n' roll " was blasting. But still average show, it was cool to see living legend live but it didn't live up to expectaions.

4. Queensryche - great, great show. Geoff Tate is great frontman, band is amazing, and they all had great interaction with fans. They played songs form their older and most known albums but some songs from newer releases and new songs were played as well.

5. Accept - I was big fan of Accept but their show was amazing, all about fans with all their biggest hits mixed with cuts from new record. They were missing one guitar player though they sounded powerful. If you don't know them you must check them out.

6. The Cult - Ian looks like twin brother to Jim Morrison ( when Jim was fat and long haired) sounds like twin brother of Jim Morrison, and The Cult is one of the best live bands I've seen. Rock n' roll classic after rock n' roll classic no slowing down. Very lively and pure rock n' roll show. And they nailed "Break on Through" in the encore, maybe that woudl be highlight to play that songs for other bands but they played such a stron setlist of their own songs and it was natural to pay tribute to The Doors as well.

7. Mr Big - was ok. their two big hits were fun, and some cuts form new records as well also mindblowing solo performances but half of the set was boring.

8. Down - great band, Anselmo is one hell of a frontman , heavy songs but really friendly atmosphere. And the songs were there as well. They're no Panter but they are good.

9. Stryper - Christian metal ? It was ok, they have big choruses , but they best songs they've played was "Over the Mountain" ( Ozzy cover) and it speak volumes.

10. Rob Zombie - amazing live show, Rob is one of the best frontmans, it was great fun, songs are fun to jump n' shout they all have all that makeup and costumes which is very cool , solo spots were great and short. What can I say a must see band.

11. Helloween - I am not a fan of such music, and didn't know any songs but it was awesome, really enjoyed that show with my friends, and the singer was cracking jokes and telling funny stories, one of the guitarist looked like Nikki Sixx though, but people at the show must have loved him as there were more fans in Motley Crue t-shirts than t-shirts of any other bands combined

12. Whitesnake - I like some songs , and they came out blasting like next big things with great songs, great voclas and really blazing guitar solos and after 5 songs instrumental department came. I don't have anything about solo spots I quite enjoy them if they are cool. But is was over the top, for fuck's sake it had to last over 25 minutes and guitar solos were boring and useless and drummer was boring as well. It killed all great momentum after than I only waited till "Here I Go Again" and I left.

13. Rhapsody of Fire - fine power metal, good band to rest and have good time but nothing special as well.

14. Black Label Society - waste of time, only Crazy Horse, Stillborn , Suicide Messiah and Blessed Hellride were great , other songs are useless and boring , D grade farmers metal. And Zakk Wyldesolo spot was horrible what a waste of time.

15. Thin Lizzy - without Phil with few orginal members, but boy that was a blast, new singer is amazing and they made justice to those songs, great guitar solos ( form Richard Fortus who was amazing as well) great interaction with crowd, I'm sure Phil would be proud of them because they keep rocking those songs, such fantastic songs.

16. Ozzy - great as well, maybe a little short ( 1.30 and he was main headliner) but Ozzy is over 60 and he was rocking like crazy screaming " I can't fucking hear you " all the time. Band was great, solo spots were great especially mindblowing tour de force by the drummer. He played all the hits form his greatest albums and what's interesting not a single tune form "Scream" album but noone complain as he has played really all the classics and some Sabbath tunes as well.
