moreblack
The thing is, in Pele and Maradona's cases, at least once or twice, they elevated an average team into world contenders. Pele in 70 was the capper on what was already a deadly squad, but in 58, they were going nowhere without him. Maradona pulled the strings in 86 and 90 and made the final both times despite not really deserving to beat some teams, especially in 90. But that's what the greats do, they are difference makers. People like Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Sydney Crosby etc. You can build a squad around them, but if you can't, sometimes they can carry that weight on their lone shoulders.

There was no effort of making a team around those 3 best players.

PappyTron
I think that football fans have such short memories. People saying things like they have never seen such a team as Barcelona, Madrid or Bayern forget that Milan had this, just a few years ago:..................Dida................,..Cafu...Stam.....Nesta....Maldini................Pirlo...........................Gatusso.........Seedorf.......................Kaka..........................Crespo...........Shevchenko...Crikey! wasted
Like Messi and Ronaldo destroyed everyone at the World Cup. They just aren't that good. Xavi and Pirlo them real players. They have a real team and and real coach.I know for a fact that Argentina will not win the WC cos there's no team. It's Messi, Aguero, Di Maria + 20 mediocre players, especially the GKs.On the other hand, there's Germany and Spain. 23 real players each. The winner will be between the two.Exactly, you can't blame Messi cuz there's only fuckin' Augero, Di Maria, who else, Mascherano...can't think of no one else. You can bang on about Maradona and Pele and how you ain't a great til you lead your country to World Cup glory but Pele and Maradonna didn't do it on their fuckin' own, did they? What you're saying is they are amazing if they are in a dominant team. That Argie team had Tevez, Guiterrez but there was a prob in center defense and mid. That's what I was saying, it's not really Messi or Ronaldo that make Barca/Real win. They are like the cherry on the top. Messi is the perfect player to finish off those chances. But they kind of disappear without a Xavi, Puyol or players like that. They just get all the glory really.Spain have Barcas mid and No Messi, still winning. So far he's only been in a dominant Barca team, when he wasn't in the WC basically did nothing.Messi should join Utd and try to turn them around instead of posing around in No Liga. Argentina has got a great team. Here in Argentina there's lot of controversy cause our coach chooses mediocre defenders playing in Europe instead of choosing the good ones playing in our local league. Also because our Goalkeeper Sergio Romero it's always on the bench on Monaco, and the 2nd one (Andujar) isn't the best one. Our 3rd goalie, Orión (Boca Juniors, the best GK in the country) didn't have a single chance to be the 1st GK. But the team it's not only Messi,Aguero and Di María. Mascherano,Higuain, Zabaleta,Gago, are excellent players. And don't forget some players that aren't even in the 11 starters, like Banega, Maxi Rodríguez, Palacio. Tévez it's not even considered cause he had some troubles with Messi and the rest of the team.We will reach Semi finals for sure. Good luck for us if we have to face Germany again... Guest NGOG
I'm fairly certain Utd will absolutely do Olympiakos. Does anybody mind a few years ago Olympiakos gave Utd a game, then Utd scored like 8 at Old Trafford?
