random article, but here's a cool interview with william friedkin. he talks about the mcconaissance a bit. http://news.moviefone.com/2014/04/25/william-friedkin-exorcist-curse-interview/

i watched 'joe' with nicolas cage last night. fucking loved it! it was pretty much what i was hoping for, a return to form for both david gordon green and cage. green has this weird aesthetic with his films, he mixes darkly absurd over-the-top stuff with an arthouse vibe. it's in his mainstream stuff too (pineapple express is a dumb comedy with moments of harsh violence, etc.) and in joe there's plenty of it.

it's similar to Mud and shares the same talented boy actor (Tye Sheridan, he's great) but it's really Cage who carries it. Wish he'd do more films like this.

Today is a good day. I'm watching Her, Philomena, Jagten & Snowpiercer.

Philomena was one of the best films of last year. Heard good things about Snowpiercer.

Her was good, but got a bit over-hyped, I think. I enjoyed it but it didn't really leave a lasting impression the way I expected it might.

I had the Ultimate Matrix Collection on DVD back in the day, used to love those films (yes, even the sequels, though nowhere near as much as the original). Would love to see how they look in HD.

I just finished watching all 3....and they are well worth watching on Blu-Ray....or a high quality HD stream. You can literally see the pores and sweat drops on people's faces....great job of remastering for Blu-Ray....one of the best I've seen yet.

Currently watching Clash of the Titans and Wrath of the Titans on Blu-Ray.

I love all the Neo scenes in the sequels, especially the final fight in Revolutions (I was really bored with that scene when I saw it in the cinema, but I came to love it on DVD and watched it a hundred times since). If you cut out all the side plots and supporting characters no one gives a shit about, cut down the Burly Brawl and the car chase in Reloaded by a few mins, and mashed them up into one film, you'd have a single worthy sequel to original.

Yeah, Philomena was bittersweet. I loved Jude, she was so into her role. The story itself is truly sad.

Snowpiercer was good, it surprised me, actually. It has little twists here and there, acting was good, Evans was good. I could highlight the direction and production. Kind of bummed how it ended 'cause it seemed a bit rushed.

I will have to disagree with Her. It just surpassed my expectations in every single way. I loved the movie, simply loved it. Phoenix was lovely as always.

Today I watched Toki o Kakeru Shōjo - The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It's a 2006 Japanese animated movie. Recommended to everyone, very sad and moving for an anime.

I watched Don Jon the other day, with Julianne Moore and Scarlett Johanssen. It's the first film in absolute ages that I've enjoyed. It was fun, entertaining and also quite meaningful. There wasn't any 'over direction' from the director, any 'over acting' from the actors and the script was pretty good. Not amazing, but the story was really relevant for the time we live in (attitudes towards sex, porn, love and the fundamental differences and where we find real love. Basically the least expected places). I saw a lot of parallels in my own life and it was a lovely and enjoyable thing to watch.

Agree on both accounts. I liked Philomena a good bit, but probably not enough to buy it and re-watch.

Her was fantastic though. One of my favorites of the year, if not in my Top 5. Can't wait to buy it and re-watch.

I enjoyed the sequels.....I've only watched them maybe twice each....and the first time I watched them, I was distracted....so I picked up things I missed this time around. I also was on here (reading/posting)part of the time I watched them this time, so I'm sure I'll pick up more things the next few times I watch them.....they are definitely the types of films that need viewing more than once or twice to understand everything.

Tokarev with the peerless Nicolas Cage

I haven't gotten to watch it yet, but might get to tonight. How was it?

It was kind of by the numbers but Cage was very good in it. He wasn't over the top at all and he very easily could have been.

The storyline is similar to Mystic River in ways.

Surprisingly I've never seen Mystic River, but I watched this tonight and enjoyed it. The ending annoyed me a bit, but overall, I enjoyed it. I'm biased when it comes to Cage movies, though.

His wife was hot too.

Watched Se7en earlier today.

I just popped in Punisher: War Zone in the Blu-Ray player.

I've never watched it and read mixed reviews....most of the negative reviews had to do with the movie being "too violent/dark" for a super hero movie...but I find that hard to believe, considering that the movie is about The Punisher....anyone who ever read any of the comics would know that's pretty much the way he is/was in the comics.

V For Vendetta

This is still one movie that I have yet to see. Always hear and see good things about it, but just never got around to watching it.

It was pretty good, from what I saw of it....I was online while watching it, so somewhat distracted...will watch it again, soon. Looks great on Blu-Ray and I it's on sale at Best Buy for $4.99 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/v-for-vendetta-blu-ray-disc/8783836.p?id=1546426&skuId=8783836
