Crash Diet
R.I.P. He was one of the most influencial blues players in the sceneThere's a recording that many believe were Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Johnny Winter jammed together. Unfortunately this is denied by Winter himself.
moreblack
I read an unconfirmed (at the time) post this morning, sad to find out it came to be true after all.
Zint
I remember going to a full stadium concert in 1979 called the World Music Festival, on the bill were Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Nazareth etc,Johnny Winter was on the bill as well, and when that cat took the stage, he completely commandeered everyone's attention. The cops, ambulance attendants, popcorn salespeople, everyone stopped what they were doing and turned to the stage and watched his set.It was just jaw dropping excellence!I will never forget it. classicrawker
I have seen Johnny about a dozen times and he never disappointed even with him being rather frail lately......always willing to sign autographs after the show.........I am going to see Rick Derringer play tomorrow night so I am sure this hit him pretty hard as he was close with Johnny so it will be interesting what he has to say.......... Georgy Zhukov
This is a big loss. I know he was 70 and all, but blues is something that gets better with age. I mean look at B.B. King. He still plays like a young man, just more experience and feel. R.I.P.

classicrawker
Saw Rick Derringer last night at the Bull Run Tavern with about a hundred people.......play as a power trio these days and for someone in his late 60's the man can still play.......only mention of Johnny's passing was a quick comment as he kicked into the first song which was a little strange as I thought they were close....in any case he is worth seeing if you get the chance.......
