wasted
Is anyone going to be picking this cd up?I'm finding it hard to resist. I keep seeing ads on TV and stacks of them at HMV. Seems like a fun summer cd to blast at barbqs.
Crash Diet
Well i'm just glad they doesn't include songs from AFD or Lies in it(keep calm, i don't think GNR was glam or hair metal) Edited July 28, 2014 by Crash Diet
wasted
I could see GNR covering Living After Midnight or Here I Go Again but that's about it. Paradise City should be on this cd.
username
Crazy, crazy nights as in... the KISS song that's practically cheese topped with cheese and some added extra cheese?
wasted
There's a compilation named after and featuring that Kiss song. It's out now!

Lio
There's only one truly great song on it, Epic, and I already have that. There are some other songs I know, but the ones I can bear to listen to, I already have, there are quite a few I don't know. There's one song on it that makes me nauseous, To Be With You by Mr. Big. Bleh. Never want to hear that song again, or watch that video. It was on MTV 20 times a day back in the day, and I've always hated it.Don't you already have most of it on cd, though ? wasted
I never really bought embarrassing shite like on cd. But one cd with all the hits on seems tempting. Like Cherry Pie, Poison, I don't know I like them all but didn't buy those records at the time. I considered buying a Europe album but then I saw the video of the second single. Crazy nights was the first Kiss song I heard. It's still my favorite although Destroyer and Detroit are good albums that song is genius.named after and featuring that Kiss songPass. You're going to buy it. Edited July 28, 2014 by wasted

wasted
I finally got this, it's pretty rocking. My main man Genne opens up proceedings about his wild lifestyle frequenting gay bars in soho. He loves a bit of Whitesnake it seems to. Going down the only road he knows.

DieselDaisy
The ironic thing about the grunge guys is, when you see early pictures of Kurt etc, they are all wearing Kiss t-shirts.

WFA
Get rid of Alice Cooper and that'd be an ok playlist.Well i'm just glad they doesn't include songs from AFD or Lies in it(keep calm, i don't think GNR was glam or hair metal)Doesn't Marc have some of glam GNR in full makeup in his book? wasted
The ironic thing about the grunge guys is, when you see early pictures of Kurt etc, they are all wearing Kiss t-shirts.The first two Kiss records are prototype grunge production. There was an ironic or kitschy side to the art rockers like Nirvana, Sonic Youth or Mudhoney. Most of them were goofballs. only Soundgarden seemed serious. AIC were called Alice N Chains at first and they are definitely a hair band that found heroin. Patton says it was Queen that got him into rock. Grunge and Industrial bands were the hair metal of the 90s. GNR were kind of at the crossroads between my def Leppard tapes and Nevermind. Then NIN made Megadeth sound like pussies. Motley trying to become a grunge industrial band was sick.
wasted
I guess Jungle is the GNR sounds most like hair metal, looking at the video and listening to the compilation there's similarities but its much heavier, dirtier and Slash n Axl much better at what they do. It's like at the time those bands were just pretending to live GNR were and that came out.
DieselDaisy
‘Anything Goes’ and ‘Back off Bitch‘ - you can do the '80s dance to both. Izzy was always too, songwritery, Slash, blues and Duff, punk, for GN'R to ever sound completely like a hair act. Hair acts tended to play modes and tended to sound clinical whereas, Guns N’ Roses played minor pentatonic and sound sleazy. GN'R, if anything, sounded like a mid-70s hard rock band. wasted
It's just some of that stuff, Tesla, Dokken, VH, Whitesnake, Queensryche, I don't know a lot of it, if Slash and guys played on those songs suddenly they would GNR songs. I don't think Don't Cry is that far away. AFD to me sounded like a harder version of The Cult's Electric when I first got it.It's scary how much Here I Go Again sounds like Street of Dreams in parts. Obviously the production of it but there's bits and part there…that solo. Chinese Democracy the last hair metal record, the first neo-metal record.I think when they had Anything Goes they were smart not to go with that. It's like they waited and thought we need to do something more true to what we want to do. It must have been tempting to just fit in.
