Tell your story of your meeting with an ex of current member of Guns

Recommended Posts

I have seen all of them 'in public' before, but as far as actually meeting them I've met Dizzy twice and Frank once.

I went to a Hookers N' Blow show back in 2004 and after Dizzy's set was over I was taking a piss in the bathroom and in walks Dizzy to the urinal right next to me. I was kinda laughing to myself at the situation (and because I was drunk) and I said "so.... when is Chinese Democracy gonna come out?" to which Dizzy responded "Fuck youuuuu" and he zipped up and walked out. I still love that story

Later that year (or possibly the next year) on Halloween Dizzy actually came out and performed with a GNR tribute band called Appetite for Destruction from Raleigh, NC and there was a costume contest that night where Dizzy was the judge. I dressed up as the VMA Axl and when I came onstage he said "no no no, no fucking way any current or former GNR member costume can win this contest." I responded to him by saying "But I'm your boss, you need to pick me" to which he yet again responded "Fuck yyoouuuuu".

I actually met Frank this past summer at the NIN/Soundgarden show at the PNC Bank Arts Center. I was walking into the show to see Dillinger Escape Plan when I saw this guy who looked familiar, and then I saw the star tattoos on his neck. I ran up to Frank just to say hello and tell him I was a big GNR fan. No joke, the guy was so pleasant to talk to, he was actually asking ME questions. It only lasted about 30-45 seconds or so, but he was such a great guy.

Eh, not in the mood to share my story again. I have met Axl in 2010, twice. I have also met Duff in 2011.

I thought the same thing yesterday haha. Each member I've met comes with a pretty cool story, I just wasn't in the mood to type it all out again haha.

.....Finck?

I know of several people who have and they always say he's cool. I'd love to meet him myself someday.

I've met Ron, Richard, ignored Ashba who was in the same room as I have no intention of talking to the girl who has butchered all of my favourite GnR songs, Frank, Dizzy, Axl, Pitman, Duff.

I actually felt bad for DJ once in Chicago. We were all chilling in a room after the show just kind of waiting for friends and stuff. The room was all quiet and everyone was looking at their phones. DJ was the first one to pop in the room. He entered by putting up the devil horns and saying "WHAT'S UP?!". Everyone and I mean everyone looked up, didn't say anything, then went right back to looking at their phones.

I know I'm well know for my dislike of DJ, but I'm not kidding when I say I really did feel bad for him in that moment.

Not saying that he deserved what happened, but it's incredibly douchey. Typical D.J. manufactured rock.

On topic. I never had a desire to meet anyone in GN'R.. If I happened to be in the same room of them, I'd probably leave them alone.

I saw Axl run by me outside of The Brooklyn Bowl. I was next to a guy who tracked his plane. It was a frightening time.

Running in sweats? Was the airport the big ones (JFK or LaGuardia) or one of the regional "billionaire" airports? I used to have one down the street from me and all the bands coming to town that flew private used it.

Preeeetty sure it was JFK. The guy (likely a poster here) also admitted to chasing his plane down as it flew away (or flew in, can't remember). The most frightening aspect was that he saw absolutely nothing wrong with that.

That is fucking brilliant, you win.

I was at the band's after-show following their Arena Zagreb (Crotia) gig in 2010 - it was Ron's B-Day gig so you can imagine he was ... quite drunk happy, to say the least. I also briefly met Richard (he wasn't really in the mood to talk to us), Ashba (despite my opinion of him as a musician in GNR, he seemed pretty cool at that particular time, even asking us a few questions), Del James (really cool dude) and even Jarmo (shy, but harmless :) ). I stayed in touch afterwards with Ron, so when he arrived to Croatia in 2013 for his guitar clinic, we actually partied together in Split, Croatia for a few days (he arrived a day earlier), at the end catching the same flight back home (at SixxAM (true story))... Fun times :)

Met Ashba and Axl (separately) after the L'Arc show in 2010. Ashba signed every one's stuff and chatted with people, same with Axl. Meeting Axl was surreal, even if it was brief (he cracked the Dylan/KOHD joke that he told at one of the Asia '09 shows).

Met Frank by chance as soon as I got off the bus in Atlantic City and went into the casino for the gig in Feb '12. Was kind enough to take a photo.

Met most of the band after Glasgow '12. Fortus was cool, chatted with him for a few mins, told me his solo spot was a "rip off" of a song by a band called Cactus, I looked them up later and this is the song:

Pitman was cool as well, funny seeing people here saying him and Fortus were dicks, guess they weren't in the mood at the time :P Pitman was really excited about Thin Lizzy being on their tour, said he was a huge fan of '70s music. Told him first band I ever saw was Jethro Tull and he seemed impressed.

Seeing Axl for a 2nd time was still surreal. Was joking around and taking a bit more time with the fans this time, when I was taking photos of him with SLAA and Conor he said something like "hey, what about this guy [me] he was singing along the whole show", made my day/week/life :P Then I told him Chinese Democracy was my favourite album and he seemed to think I was a nutjob

Only spoke to Slash for about 10 secs after Brixton '12 show while he signed my ticket. Told him it'd be awesome to hear Locomotive or Coma some time, and he went "Hahaha, yeah... that's not gonna happen."

Please tell us about Axl when you are in the right mood

I met Buckethead and posted my picture with him a few years ago on here.

Hung out with Axl, Ron, DJ, Richard a few times over the last few years. Met the rest of the current band a few times as well. Most of you know that already.

Chris in the elevator of the hotel was awesome, great dude.

DJ being freaked out that my son was backstage and also was freaked out about the hat he was wearing. this one : http://www.spencersonline.com/images/spencers/products/interactivezoom/processed/02346203.interactive.a.jpg

Anyway ALL of the band members were great to talk to, didn't experience any issues at all. DJ, as much as you guys shit on him was a great hang in Montreal, he was fairly new at the time and we talked about all sorts of shit.

Axl was completely the opposite of what most people think of him. Some would say he was being nice, I only met him for a few mins etc etc etc, I had the opportunity to be close to him over a few nights for many hours... and he was not only talkative but hilarious and genuinely interested in talking to you and hearing what you had to say. Super nice guy all around. I cannot find a bad thing to say about him at all in any interaction in any place.

I have also met most of the inner circle, not all of them however. Maybe one day...

I met Slash and Steven Adler at a book signing/interview session at Guitar Center back on my birthday in 2008. Everyone was swarming Steven while people were getting in line for getting Reckless Road signed by Slash and I was able to get his autograph. Slash was running late to another thing he had scheduled after but he stayed until everyone got their book signed which was really cool of him to do.

I also met Duff at his own book signing in Santa Monica a few years ago, he was really cool and genuinely seemed appreciative that so many people came out to hear him talk and to check out his book. I told him thanks for writing the book and he smiled and said, "no, thank you!" and just seemed really down to earth and chill. He also gave a really cool Q&A and answered a lot of questions from the crowd including giving really heartfelt adivce to a lady who asked him about her own son who was battling drug addiction.

i've met Duff back in april 2013 after his gig with Walking Papers, ofcourse there were lots of others in line but the man was really kind, when i walked to him i shaked his hand and we gave each other kind of a hug as he saw i was really happy to meet him lol and we talked a bit, he signed my AFD copy and i told him about my GN'R tattoo which is designed on the base of his, but with different details and he wanted to see it, so i showed him and we compared the tattoos and he said thats a nice one there looks better than mine lol also the rest of his band came to check after that i said bye take care and stuff and then he just said you too, thanks for coming out to our show. Really nice guy took a lot of time and patience for his fans and also the rest of the band was really nice!

I also think he's a case where he was in a band at a really young age (Duff stuck close to home and Tommy was on the road at a really young age) and had a record deal at a time most people would be bitching about going INTO high school - makes me wonder if he ever got a diploma, his brother was probably legal custodian of him, because what parent would go "okay, live the dream son, fuck school"? I don't know Minneapolis well but it sounded like Prince's upbringing and Tommy's upbringing weren't all that different.
