themadcaplaughs
Can't believe it has been so long since the Hammerstein shows. I still remember slowly seeing shitty cell phone pics and videos the day after each show. People thought Axl had gotten two new guitarists because Robin looked so different. I remember the first video being a thirty second clip of Axl singing "Rocket Queen" and everyone being stunned at how much more powerful his voice sounded.

We love Axl Rose
May 13, 1986 - Raji's, Hollywood, CA Notes: first live performance of You're Crazy. Paul Stanley goes to check out this new, upcoming band Guns n Roses at Raji’s in Hollywood, Ca. Paul was considered to produce the album that would become Appetite For Destruction. GnR ultimately decided Paul was not the right fit to produce the band. May 13, 1988 - Moncton, Canada Notes: Set was cut short after fans kept booing and throwing things at the band throughout their set. Axl was struck in the arm with a beer can during 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door,' telling the crowd that he didn't like "warm beer especially not Alpine." Axl ended the set by saying "fuck You Moncton!!!" May 13, 2014 - Bethlehem, PA May 13, 2016 - Marseille, France (AC/DC) EDIT: May 13, 2017 - Axl joins Billy Joel on stage at his Dodger Stadium show and sings Highway To Hell (by AC/DC) and Big Shot. IrishgunnerII
Can’t believe it’s nearing 10 years since GNR played in Dublin after that less than positive moment two years earlier where he stopped the show and eventually came back on but it made news here in Ireland. We love Axl Rose
* In the last post I added Axl’s performance with Billy Joel. May 14, 1988 - Halifax, Canada Notes: Axl mentions that the Appetite For Destruction tour started on Aug. 14, 1987, exactly 9 months before. Before 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door,' Axl tells an audience member to suck his dick and challenges him to come onstage for a fight. May 14, 1992 - Guns N' Roses arrived in Dublin, Ireland on their private jet. Two days later the extraordinary European Tour would begin at Slane Castle. Photos: GNR at the airport by Independent News Ireland May 14, 2006 - Hammerstein Ballroom, New York, NY (2nd show) Notes: Bumblefoot left for the whole of November Rain and when Axl stopped before the grand finale he said something along the lines of "And to my right our newest. . . . . .I guess he quit already." then Bumblefoot came out and they started the end of November Rain. There Was A Time, I.R.S. and Madagascar disappear from the set and are replaced with Rocket Queen and extra solos. Axl wears the same as the previous performance, denim Jeans and a black-buttoned shirt. Axl tells the crowd how Sebastian Bach saved the day, as when he woke up, he'd lost his voice, and he saw a vocal coach to get his voice back. Sebastian guests on vocals with Axl once more on My Michelle. * PHOTOS from 1st show: 2
We love Axl Rose
May 15, 2006 - Hammerstein Ballroom, New York, NY (3rd show) Notes: Robin Finck crowd surfs during You Could Be Mine - Axl asks Finck if he's alright and he replies "That's what I live for man.". After Madagascar, Axl mentions the 14 years thing. Axl says to security "Ease up a little" after Better, and speaks after Sweet Child O' Mine saying "I gotta call from Izzy earlier today"... Sebastian Bach joins Axl again for vocals on My Michelle. Before Rocket Queen, he mentioned Izzy again, and said people recognized him in NYC a lot. * I'm not sure which concert the pictures are from (most are probably from the first concert) Edited May 15, 2022 by We love Axl Rose 2
Popular Post We love Axl Rose
May 16, 1988 - Quebec City, Canada Here’s Why Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson Regrets Not Punching Axl Rose Iron Maiden‘s super-trooper frontman, Bruce Dickinson, has said he has “always regretted” not punching Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose when he had the chance to, back in 1988. In a recent interview with Le Journal de Montréal, Dickinson discusses the night of 16th May 1998, when Guns N’ Roses opened for Iron Maiden in Quebec City, Canada. According to Dickinson, Rose wasn’t treating the crowd nicely because they were speaking to him in French, and since then Dickinson hasn’t let himself forget that he didn’t give Rose a piece of his mind that night. “I should have come onstage and given him a punch,” Dickinson says. “How could he dare speak to my audience in that way? I always regretted not having done so.” May 16, 1991 - The Ritz, New York, NY Notes: The third and last secret warm-up gig for the UYI tour. Special guest performance by Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon. Axl mentions how the chorus to 'Right Next Door To Hell' was written about his next door neighbor. Slash says they are filming the video for 'You Could Be Mine' for the new Terminator 2 movie. After 'You Could Be Mine,' Axl asks the crowd, "Have you ever heard the expression break a leg? Well, I think I just did." Axl actually injures his heel and is forced to wear a brace on it for the first few weeks of the UYI tour. Before 'Don't Cry,' Axl says how Shannon's band was covering the song a few years back. 'Welcome To The Jungle' is dedicated to the 3rd Street Hell's Angels. May 16, 1992 - Slane, Ireland Notes: Before the show, U2 sent a case of Irish whiskey to the band as a welcoming gift. Before 'Live And Let Die,' Axl says the band originally wanted to do the 'Paradise City' video in Ireland. Before 'Don't Cry,' Slash says, "Playing in the fuckin' sunlight, that's a change!" This is the first documented performance of 'It's Alright' as an intro to 'November Rain.' Axl sings U2's 'One' as an intro to 'Sweet Child O' Mine,' a song that he wanted GN'R to perform completely on tour. May 16, 2006 - Axl Rose attends DIOR 2007 Cruise Collection Dinner Party, hosted by Bernard Arnault and Sidney Toledano at The Four Seasons Restuarant in New York City. But the only thing I have to say is that Bruce Dickinson is such a poser! Trying to be all macho and stuff! What a stupid man. I prefer "My Word" over ANYTHING that Iron Maiden has ever done! We love Axl Rose
May 17, 1988 - Montreal, Canada Notes: During 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door,' Axl compliments the crowd by saying they sound like a small club in New York. After 'Sweet Child O' Mine,' Axl says that the last time they played Canada, Appetite For Destruction was banned because of its obscene cover. Before 'Used To Love Her,' Axl mentions that they only have two minutes left in their set. May 17, 2006 - Hammerstein Ballroom, New York, NY (4th show) Notes: Izzy Stradlin guests on 3 songs: 'Patience,' 'Think About You' and 'Nightrain.' Sebastian Bach features on guest vocals with Axl on 'My Michelle.' Kid Rock joins for 'Nightrain.' * The first 4 pictures are from this show. Other songs are most likely from the 1st show. May 17, 2012 - Dublin, Ireland Notes: The show is first stopped during "Welcome to the Jungle" and the crowd is warned not to throw things. Show was stopped again during "Sorry" because of objects thrown at the stage. The band leaves the stage and comes back on after about 25 minutes. 1
Popular Post We love Axl Rose
May 18, 1988 - Ottawa, Canada Notes: Axl is in a real violent mood, speculating about trying to kill someone before “My Michelle.” During introductions, Axl tells the crowd to remember their names because they'll be hearing them a lot during the next few years! Talk about premonition! Axl introduces 'Welcome To The Jungle' as “a cover song written by a bunch of hooray for tolerance!s called Guns N' Roses, this is Welcome To The Jungle!” May 18, 2006 - The Plumm, New York, NY Notes: Acoustic set played at an The Plumm in New York City for Rosario Dawson's Birthday. 'Used To Love Her' played for the first time by the 'new' Guns N' Roses, as is the 'Lies' version of 'You're Crazy.' Many celebrities in attendance, including Kid Rock. Axl said they had learned the songs just 20 minutes before arriving at the club. Before 'I.R.S.', Axl asked the band if they felt like trying it even though they hadn't rehearsed it, and Tommy screamed out "I'm fucking fearless, I'll try anything!" The set list is correct, although not necessarily in that order. At the end, Axl came back out and said, 'I forgot to do something because I'm a fucking idiot,' before bringing Rosario Dawson out on stage and leading the audience in a rendition of 'Happy Birthday.' Then Rosario grabbed the mic and went nuts, "They've never played all acoustic. This is history in the making. How much does this fucking man rock?!" Before GN'R took the stage, Axl got into a spat with fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger. Setlist: 1. Used To Love Her 2. Mr. Brownstone 3. Welcome To The Jungle 4. You're Crazy 5. Patience 6. May 20, 2012 - Liverpool, UK Notes: (https://loudwire.com/guns-n-roses-singer-axl-rose-dodges-beer-suffers-fall-at-liverpool-show/) During Sunday's performance in Liverpool, things got a little testy when the band took the stage nearly two hours late. At one point during the set, Axl Rose stopped the group's performance when a fan threw a beverage onstage in his direction. Rose gave the crowed a warning, but eventually continued the show. Finally finishing the set, the noticeably limping Rose told the fans, "Thanks for coming out. You guys have been great. Thanks for putting up with my hobbling around. Be safe getting out of here."
