Yeah, I agree re the leaks. I think Axl's really proof that without deadlines we'd getting nothing done and keep tinkering with things forever. I think when the record company first gave up with the release and he didn't have any deadlines anymore that was really what caused the issues. What's amazing is how much stuff was good to go at various points. I mean, even now if some instrumentals are still instrumentals it wouldn't take long to write lyrics and vocal melodies over the top. There could be a new GN'R album in no time if there was any desire to put one out.

Popping in for my yearly visit because a GNR leak takes me back to the fun days of 2006 lol. Seems like I missed actually getting to hear it but I'm sure it'll be out soon enough, is this a track we've heard before in demo form or something else?

This is a track we heard in demo form in 2019 with the locker leaks. However, it appears to have different vocals. And this version has drums and bass high in mix. Hard to really make out how different  it is based on cell phone recordings from bars.

Let me tell you about my weekend.

I only visit these forums when the band is touring, as those are the only times I anticipate news about any potential new music. I’m pretty pessimistic about this band. As a result, I’ve been on this board more frequently and have been contributing to the conversations more often than usual.

My girlfriend is a bit younger than me, in her late 20s. Like most younger people, she doesn’t give a fuck about Guns N’ Roses. She hardly knows who they are. She knows Sweet Child O’ Mine from Guitar Hero but wouldn’t be able to tell you who sang it before she met me.

She gets annoyed when we’re watching something on TV together and she looks over and I’m typing away at my phone, debating some internet stranger over the merits of an unreleased song by a band that hasn’t been relevant since around the time she was born.

Her: What are you debating anyway?

Me: (explains a brief history of the band, their place in rock history, the Chinese Democracy saga, the reunion, and all the mishaps in between).

Her: So you’re arguing with people over whether or not a band is going to release a song, a song that you’re excited about but *don’t even like*?!

Her tone cut me down to size immediately. I felt silly and stupid. I spend so much time here typing these silly little posts, all for a band that’s not going to release anything this weekend anyway.

So I put my phone down on Friday night and didn’t touch it again until just now. And apparently Perhaps has been available at local weekends on TouchTunes jukeboxes.

I live in O’Donnell Square in Baltimore. I am quite literally surrounded by bars. There are 10 bars within 30 yards of my house in any direction. Most of them have TouchTunes.

I’m now in flip flops and basketball shorts walking to a local bar to order a beer and see if this song actually sucks, or if perhaps I was wrong.

Also - I think this is the first time I’m realizing that many of you aren’t in the US?

Is this a UK-heavy GnR forum? I was surprised how many of you have no idea what TouchTunes is. They’re all over the US.

I sent my hubs a link to an article talking about the accidental leak of a “new” gnr song so of course he went and found it just now and listened to it.. and.. he says:

Honestly, when I left to the bar last night to listen to this song I was really tempted to just my tell my family I was going to a brothel instead. Would be a hell of a lot easier to explain.

It was a lot more exciting hearing “You Could Be Mine” in 1991 from a radio station that teased its release for a few days, then finally played it for the first time. There were no demo versions heard beforehand, or knowledge of how long it took to finalize the version that ended up as the official song. You accepted the song as-is. 
 

Now, it’s “Slash butchered the guitar parts” because he’s not a shredder like Buckethead. 

To be fair, Perhaps originally had Robin’s solo. Shouldn’t have been too hard for Slash to do it justice.

I think Slash's solo on Perhaps is fine. Then again I have always thought most of the complaints about his playing since 2016 are greatly over-exaggerated so that is coming from that mindset lol

I actually like his solo too, but the transition from Robin to Slash just kills it for me. Hopefully on the official quality release it is just Slash overlayed with Robin to make the cut/past less grating.

Was a fair bit of noise in the bar, but obviously sounded significantly better than the cell phone recordings. Solo is more seamless and sounds pretty good when you’re listening to it on a jukebox imo.
