I tried making an overview of when original, released GN'R songs were made. Obviously, most songs are made over a long period, which is especially true for GN'R more recent releases that have been in gestation for decades. It is also not necessary obvious when it makes sense to say a song was worked on, does it count when a single line of lyrics were written? Or when a riff was made which would years later end up in a song? Still, to the best of my availability I made the following chart with two colors, dark green for when I believe major work on a song happened (including when it was finally recorded and mixed) and light green for when I think minor work took place (like a riff being constructed or some lyrics being written). The music was witten by Pitman and Dizzy, so earliest in 1998. Parts of the lyrics were inspired by a Howard Stern show in 1993. That doesn't mean Axl actually wrote those lyrics back then, though, but I would say it is not unlikely that he jotted down those lyrics around that time. EvanG Posted May 30 Share Posted May 30 The chord progression in The Fake is the same as the chord progression in the main riff of Jungle, so Duff is probably right, but Jungle has many riffs, and they were probably written by Slash. When I listen to The Fake I wouldn't immediately recognize the Jungle riff either because it's played faster and in a different way, but the note progression is more or less the same, so I'm sure what Duff says makes sense, and Slash transforming it into a more slow hardrock riff.
