Then in the second half they started playing again like they have been playing for most of the tournament. England was pretty much a top 5/10 team in the world since the football started but their track record is subpar compared to their talent. Sometimes they were unlucky, and sometimes they shit the bed. Famously bad penalties throughout history - the current manager missed one in 1996 for example against Germany in the EURO semifinals which is still remembered. Even this generation is slightly underachieving and has a habit of stopping playing well after scoring a goal. They also lost the last EURO finals in 2021 on penalties as well. Football in general very rarely has one team that's clearly better than everyone else and there are always several teams that could win EUROs or WC and there are some great teams/countries that never won much but got to the semifinals/finals numerous times. England didn’t deserve anything, we were very lucky to get through playing such shit and boring football.
