my guess it's Axl and also the tech is annoying for him and he can't make it feel like it's almost not there, or at least fully get used to it you know.

He doesn't have to do anything though, so it's basically not there. Outside of turning a volume control up or down the only thing he has to do is turn and signal or go to his talk back and say what's wrong. So like I get that everybody has their different challenges with technology it's not just way one of learning, but he literally stands there they put it on him and it's done, he doesn't have to learn how to programme it, just wear it😄

The Milan IEM leak is fascinating. Crappy quality, but really interesting hearing a gig from 'the other side'. Him getting frustrated about all the teleprompters going out is also pretty funny

Have to check this out. It's just a damn shame they have him the ability to do talkback on stage, I think we would all prefer to hear him swearing his team out of it loud and clear

I think the sound and dealing with the pack distracts him and many times it doesn't work for him like he wants it to. jmo.

Ah! That changes things a little. Well same would apply. If the unit was failing, they'd just replace it with a different system, it's very unlikely that multiple packs would fail so much so that they couldn't fix almost any issue within the space of a song. Like if his monitors were cutting in and out all night you can bet your ass his technician is going to be busy up until the next show making sure his pack is 100% working.

Ha! We should have a separate sub forum for nerd IEM / sound talk... If there isn't one already?

It sounds like you know a thing or two about IEMs. Axl doesn't have many issues with his IEMs as he has in the past, but you cannot control UHF signals in a live environment.

With the 3 guitarists using wireless systems, to the techs using wireless communications and or two-way communication, through to the production crew, the stage cameraman and even the venue security using UHF frequencies you can very easily get interference including reduced volume levels or distortion in IEMs.

The transmitters still use standard AA batteries, so as the batteries start to decrease, you lose signal strength and volume.

The band use Shure wireless systems the really haven't changed that much in terms of technology. The biggest developments have been working to improve signal coverage and quality by running an IEM wireless system separate with a rack set up similar to a guitar rack with its own power supply with DI inputs to improve output signals. The other thing to take into consideration is GN’R place their cabinets under the stage in a road case with mics inside, so the noise generated  on the stage is alot less these days.

GNR use Jerry Harvey IEMs and JH has done alot of development on IEMs output quality and noise cancellation to keep external noise out.

It can get very uncomfortable with an IEMs sitting right in your ear canal when multiple things are going on with your mix or audio quality.

I started working with artists when Shure IEMs were the only product available as they were easily available along with the shure wireless systems. Ultimate Ears came along and they were a much better quality product even running through a Shure system. Now days the Shure systems are pretty standard but you have many different brands of custom IEMs available in the market place.
