Most kickass metal album?

So what's the metal album that you think just kicks so much ass it's unbelievable? The album that makes you realize that metal isn't about thinking, it's about punching someone in the crotch and laughing at their pain.

That album for me is Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power.

It may not be the heaviest or most aggressive album of all time, and I was tempted to name say a Slayer or Cannibal Corpse album 'kickass', which they are. But there is something about this album that just fucks you up...in the best way possible.

If you don't know what I'm talking about....go to hell.

I would say Damage Done by Dark Tranquillity

not a single bad song on it

Im getting hard just thinking about it ^_^

possibly the Gallery by DT is the most kick ass one :suspicious:

its hard to be sure

well its a DT album thats for sure ^_^

then Dissection's storm of lights bane is a real killer album also :suspicious:

for we're the outstretched fingers

That seize and hold the wind...

rock4

you who turn to others

with everything you lack

a face that bears not seeing

then i'll turn my back

rock4

Track now the stains that allow my fall

Sickening, the sight of it all

Never shall I claim my innocence

I just was not there

Um, bullshit. Metal is a very clever genre, and the best metal is that which makes you think. I hate the stereotype that metal is all noise and no substance. :drevil:

There'd be a few 'definitive' metal albums for me:

Opeth - Orchid

Agalloch - The Mantle

Woods of Ypres - Pursuit of the Sun and Allure of the Earth

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark

Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

Burzum - Det Som Engang Var

Sunn 0))) - Black One

Drudkh - Autumn Aurora

Drudkh - Forgotten Legends

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime

Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse

Those are off the top of my head. I've probably missed a few obvious ones.

Yeah but I'm not in the mood for thinking metal right now. I want fast, aggressive and ass-kicking madness. Not all metal has to make you think....and that's the stuff that I made this thread about :).

Well for me, at least it's Sepultura's Arise. Yeah, I know there's harder stuff, faster stuff, darker stuff, better bands and all the like. I just like this one the most-musically, lyrically. I like how it deals with deeper meanings then most conventional. It's like the "Apocalypse Now" of metal. It delves into deeper things. Musically it's also interesting and flows with the songs well.

And please don't blast me with stupid comments like "U r lYkE a st00ped gn00b-saur, dAt shyT aint br00tal"

If I get that, I will think less of you as a human being.

Megadeth: Countdown to Extinction

Megadeth: When

Pantera: Cowboys From Hell

any Deeds Of Flesh albums

Job For A Cowboy: Doom

Operation: Mindcrime is an incredible album.

Rust in Peace is my favourite metal album. Better than Metallica's albums.,.*cowers in corner*. Operation Mindcrime is also awesome, you can easily listen to it many times in a row and not get bored at all...in fact I'm gonna go listen to it now.

And I didn't say that metal had no substance or whatever , just that this thread isn't about that kind of metal, it's about the kind that kicks your ass all over the place you know?

:)
