VIDEOGAME Thread...

Sony just released the following statement:

"As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.

* When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; "An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)".

* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; "Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game."

* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; "The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)"

* Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, Please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologise for any inconvenience caused."

this reminds me of when one new year a lot of zune mp3 players stopped working, and the only solution given was "don't use it today"

this sucks, but i still would rather have the 60gb version to any of the newer ps3's ^_^

Bastards. I was planning on getting the Platinum Trophy for Heavy Rain before tomorrow when BFBC2 comes out. Looks like that won't be happening. >:

Oh well, though. As long as my trophies will be fine and sync back up, I can wait.

This picture is fantastic, by the way.

If that's the case, then everyone with a Sony Phat as pretty much lost their Trophy Data. I doubt that's correct though. It saves it to your online name, and it can sync back up to the system itself.

If I did loose my Trophy Level 10, though... I will smash my PS3.

In short: bad stuff. Sony says that there's a bug in "the clock functionality incorporated in the system". What that means is that affected systems are resetting their internal clocks to 12/31/99, and this is causing a whole mess of problems including the inability to log into the PlayStation Network, start games and play certain video rentals. In addition, Trophy data for the games you're trying and failing to play turns into "corrupt data".

While you might get it back there is a chance you won't as the entire data will be corrupted, including when people try and get their trophy data online

I know what you're saying, but I sync my trophies up with my Online Profile every time I turn the game off, so even though the trophies are gone on my SYSTEM, they are still on my PROFILE, or they should be at least. If not, then Sony can go fuck themselves.

ahhh, just got back from class, I think I'll fire up my XBOX360 and play some MW2 for a while

Despite being a fellow 360 owner it willbe fucking hilarious if you get RROD now.

already got it back in November when MW2 came out, had a buddy of mine break into my xbox to replace the thermal glue with higher grade shit, pennies wrapped in electrical tape and whatnot, now it runs like I just bought it. If I ever get the RROD again it won't be for quite some time

Funny how the Xbox fanboys are all over the PS3 fanboys now that there's finally a PS3 failure to laugh at. The funny thing is, that while the PS3 error is probably fixed within 24 hours, the RROD can't, in most cases, be solved by yourself and therefore you have to order a new one. Unless you have a friend like sweetness, who can glue and tape the Xbox back in shape :rofl-lol:

The thing is the Xbox fanboys are getting revenge from when they got the RROD and all the PS3 fanboys laughed at them, now they are getting their own back.

However I for one am going the opposite and am sympathising with PS3 owners as it sucks to have this happen.

it's only a temporary fix. but you can do that same fix a few times. after that if you're still in warranty microsoft won't fix it because you opened it up. but its a good fix if you're out of warranty. IMO i don't think there should be any warranty limit on the RROD

Fucking great, go to play Heavy Rain and this bug goes to work. Funny thing is my PS3 isn't even connected to the net, hasn't been for months. The software update on the game did it. Now I'm going to have to lug the bloody thing somewhere to connect it to the net and fix it. Good work, Sony.

I half feel like taking the damn thing to the nearest Sony Centre and demanding a slim model so I don't have to keep deleting game data just to install another game which was pissing me off even before this happened.

I'd advise not doing that, as it could mess things up more. Heavy Rain had nothing to do with this bug.

Yeah its a bug in the PS3 software itself that caused the problem. Sony have said do not do anything with the PS3 until an update is released.
